SUMMARY/SCOPE: The Department of Engineering at Hardin-Simmons University invites applications for a part-time summer student worker. We seek a driven and collegial student worker committed to transferring classroom knowledge to hands-on work experience with laboratory equipment.

Preferred applicants should have completed the following engineering courses: ENGR 1301 Introduction to Engineering and ENGR 2301 Statics. Preferred applicants should be skilled with software tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Applicants with experience in technical writing are preferred, but not required.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 20-30 hours per week. Student worker(s) are expected to adhere to laboratory safety procedures, conduct laboratory experiments, and demonstrate both cooperation and collaboration with colleagues to support the missions of the Engineering Department and Hardin-Simmons University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the testing and operation of laboratory equipment.

Maintain safety and cleanliness of the labs.

Developing operation and maintenance guides for lab equipment.

Validating the ease of operation for laboratory manual experiments.

General assistance in preparing lab spaces for the Fall 26 semester

Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when working with faculty, staff, and students

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

STEM major with preference given to students pursuing engineering.

Willingness and eagerness to learn and take initiative.

Completed the following courses: Introduction to Engineering, Statics, Calculus 1, and Physics 1

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidate must be able to move heavy items, work with their hands, and be on their feet.

This position reports to Matt Jackson and is intended to be a position that educates the next student laboratory assistant upon graduation.
