  • Perform all functions in the electrical craft using proper procedures and safety equipment.
  • With proper training and continuing education, required to identify and control hazardous working conditions and ensure all safety precautions have been taken before proceeding.
  • Use proper test equipment to detect hazards and needs for adjustments, relocation, or replacement of electrical equipment.
  • Estimate materials, order and obtain materials required, and inform immediate supervisor of needs and requirements to complete each job.
  • Layout new or modified installations to conform to national and municipal electrical codes. Read blueprints and diagrams for correctly wiring electrical installations.
  • Install all electrical conduits, pull boxes, and necessary systems using good workmanship and proper tools and equipment.
  • Conform to all District policies regarding vehicle operation and seat belt policy whether as a driver or passenger in a District vehicle. Notify supervisors of any accident or injury in a timely manner.
  • Complete required documentation to include work orders, material requisitions, purchase orders, and other related documents.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and repair all electrical equipment and components to ensure compatibility and safety to each installation.
  • Obtain and set up scaffolds, ladders, and personnel lifts to perform electrical work in multi-story, high rise buildings. Perform electrical work in, about, and under each campus as necessary.
  • Maintain district vehicle with periodic vehicle maintenance inspection, inform supervisor of any known problems with tools or vehicles in a timely manner, and uses all tools in the manner for which they are intended.
  • Communicate effectively with department heads, principals, and all other maintenance personnel in a professional manner to locate, correct, repair, and complete each job or project.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency and after hour call-outs.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.


  • High School diploma or USA equivalency.
  • Four (4) years of work-related experience in an electrical field.
  • Must have a valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Journeyman Electrician License
  • Must be able to pass the Asbestos physical and obtain certification within 90 days after the hire date.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of various types of electrical equipment to include ohm and amperage meters, test equipment, general hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of District and contractor person.
  • Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and a driving record that meets District’s standard.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces; frequently required to use ladder, climb or balance at a height up to 30 feet.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency and after hour emergencies.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
