Position Summary:

The Senior Underwriting Assistant is responsible for contributing to the profitability and revenue goals of the department through delivery of individual account underwriting support and exceptional customer service. Their primary focus is to execute and manage the flow of work alongside the underwriter including submission review/information follow up, manual rating, creating and initial population of pricing models, billing transactions, policy and endorsement issuance and other post-bind tasks. Other duties include assisting the underwriter in the evaluation and pricing of individual accounts.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Review submissions, obtain pertinent underwriting information to enable or assist the underwriter to accurately identify and assess exposures and risk hazards

  • Perform and/or coordinate completion of transactional underwriting duties with timeliness and accuracy including: preparation of proposals and binders; account invoicing; policy and endorsement issuance and processing of reinsurance transactions

  • Complete other underwriting account support tasks with minimal supervision as per company guidelines

  • Adhere to all service standards and respond with urgency to all internal and external customer requests

  • In partnership with the underwriter, provide complete and detailed documentation of the underwriting file for all discussions and decisions

  • Handle complex accounts and lead as a technical subject matter expert

  • Work with IT to represent the needs of the user group including user acceptance testing

  • May be responsible for onboarding/training/mentoring of new or less experienced UAs

  • Willingness to lead, take charge and offer opinions and direction

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Experience and Education:

  • Five plus years’ underwriting assistance experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; College preferred

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$70,000 - $95,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
