Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to safely transport youth program participants on field trips while ensuring the safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from the City's passenger bus.

Essential Job Functions

  • Safely transport youth program participants on field trips using a passenger bus.
  • Inspect bus before and after each field trip and report any operating and equipment deficiencies.
  • Maintain discipline on bus and ensure passenger safety.
  • Record mileage and hours driven for each trip.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 21 years of age is required.
  • Two or more years of experience driving a school bus is preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations. Skill in the safe operation of passenger buses. Ability to adhere to established routes and assigned time schedules.

Ability to act as a role-model to the students attending our program. Ability to assist children using patience and understanding.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and program participants. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.

This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.

Special Requirements:

Be available to work various weekday shifts between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the summer break and as needed during the school year when Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD students are on break (Thanksgiving, Winter break, Spring break, etc.).

This position is classified as a DOT position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, ongoing driver record checks, and is subject to all U.S. DOT regulations during the course of employment.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possess a valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger endorsement with a good motor vehicle record and the ability to maintain while employed.

Work performed in clean surroundings does not usually subject employee to any disagreeable elements; requires little physical effort in working with light, easy to handle materials. Occasionally lifting of objects. Walking, standing, and reaching are part of the physical demands of this position.
