Job Description:

Job Summary: The Medication Aide II administers medication ensuring the “5 Rights” of medication administration are followed at all times and monitors the consumption of all medications administered to the patient. The Medication Aide assists in the administration of oral and topical medications as directed and prescribed by the health care practitioner and assists in the clinical care of patients as directed by the professional nurse and prescribed by the health care practitioner.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Administers medication ensuring the “5 Rights” of medication administration are followed at all times and monitors the consumption of all medications administered to the patient.

  2. Observes and reports to the licensed nurse any reactions and/or side effects to medication taken by the patient.

  3. Documents the administered medication on the patient’s medication administration record (MAR).

  4. Administers medication according to physician’s orders.

  5. Prepares medication to be administered.

  6. Notifies mental health staff if a mental health patient refuses medication for three consecutive days.

  7. Completes end of the month MAR change out process.

  8. Orders patient refill medications from the pharmacy in a timely manner.

  9. Acts as health care team member.

  10. Maintains positive and effective relationships with patients, family members, co-workers, Sheriff’s Department staff and other Network and contract employees.

  11. Accesses navigate through Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department (TCSO) IT System.

  12. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Successful completion of Medication Aide Training Program.
  • Current Medication Aide certificate issued by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
  • 4791 Medication Aide I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4792 Medication Aide II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4793 Medication Aide III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4794 Medication Aide IV: 10 years of relevant experience.
