The Cook I position in the Dining Services Production department at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for preparing and producing high-quality food and beverages for patients, guests, and visitors. This role includes both quantity and made-to-order food preparation while ensuring the quality, freshness, and presentation of all items served through Patient Room Service and Dining Services.

The Cook I follows established standards, departmental policies, and procedures, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.

Schedule:

This position requires flexibility to work any of the following shifts based on business needs. Ideal candidates will be available for rotating weekends and holidays. Possible shifts include:

- 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM

- 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

- 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

- 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

- 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

- 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

- 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM

What You’ll Do:

Productivity:
Responsible for completing all short-order cooking assignments within the assigned venue and ensuring tasks are performed on schedule. Maintains punctual attendance for all assigned meetings.

Safety & Sanitation:
Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment by thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas daily. Performs daily rotation of stored food items using FIFO procedures and promptly reports any spoiled or substandard items to the supervisor. Operates kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, distributes leftover food according to established procedures, and accurately records all product transactions. Conducts daily inventories of leftover items, discarding unusable products and returning or reusing items that remain suitable for use. Consistently adheres to the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.

Recipe Compliance:
Prepares food items from standardized recipes with complete accuracy and ensures all items are issued to the venue precisely as required. Responsible for preparing and inventorying assigned food items in bulk and for reviewing all computer-generated information for accuracy, reporting findings to the supervisor as needed. Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates flexibility to be reassigned to new locations or shifts based on operational needs. Participates in cross-training, which may include shift changes or assignments to different areas as required.

What We’re Looking For:

High school diploma or equivalent.

One year of related experience in a high-volume food service environment.

A positive attitude, strong time management skills, and commitment to teamwork.

Texas Food Handlers Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).

Successful completion of the MD Anderson apprenticeship program or 9 months of completion of the program can be substituted for a maximum of 1 year of experience.
