Job Title: Assistant Laboratory Director - Preclinical Cardiovascular Research

Salary Range: $70,618 - $85,000
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Summary

The Center for Preclincal Surgical and Interventional Research works primarily with industry and large animal research. The main focus of this role will be assisting with the operations and building up GLP infrastructure for this expanding lab. Under the direction of the principal investigator, ensures the smooth operation of the lab by overseeing the day-to-day operations. Participates in experiments, guides staff and faculty on technical services, and collaborates with investigators on research initiatives.

Job Duties
  • Oversees the daily administrative, operational, and research activities of the laboratory to ensure smooth and compliant functioning.
  • Delivers specialized technical services, including embryo manipulation and surgical support in murine models, for investigators at THI, BCM, and affiliated institutions.
  • Performs quality assurance functions to comply with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
  • Collaborates with principal investigators on research initiatives, contributing to experimental design and data generation.
  • Writes, maintains and amends human/animal/IBC protocols, tracks required animal and safety training for lab members.
  • Monitors and enforces required training certifications in laboratory safety and animal handling for all team members.
  • Contributes to budget planning, grant proposal development, and preparation of budget justifications and expenditure reports.
  • Manages procurement, vendor relations, service contracts, and equipment maintenance to support research infrastructure.
  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the use, care, and repair of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Participates in personnel management and including technical oversight.
  • Oversees inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies, ensuring cost-effective procurement aligned with budgetary guidelines.
  • May participate in the development of grant budgets; oversees expenditures of grant monies; performs accounting functions; produces expenditure reports.
  • Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory personnel and insures compliance.
  • Coordinates procurements of equipment and supplies and manages all stages of the acquisition cycle.
  • Participates in establishing procedures for management of the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • Performs personnel management functions and supervises technical support staff.
  • May conduct laboratory research with Laboratory Director and/or Principal Investigator as opportunities are available.
  • Performs additional research and administrative tasks as necessary to support overall lab goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Must have GLP experience.
