Position Summary:
The Assistant Coach, Women's Track, will assist the Head Coach in the effective management and administration of all aspects related to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate experience for student-athletes. This position will have duties related to coaching, the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, operational management, and other aspects of the program’s administration.

Workplace Requirements:
On-campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3 years of coaching at the professional or collegiate level

  • Experience recruiting both internationally and nationwide at the college level

  • Must possess (or have the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years

  • Adaptable and supportive of a changing work environment

  • Creative and forward-thinking

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts and manages all aspects of a sports program according to participating conference, NCAA, Rice University, and Athletic Department rules, regulations, and procedures

  • Develops and organizes recruiting records, logs, and contact information for a sports program per NCAA regulations

  • Scouts and recruits student-athletes and supports future athletes through the admissions process

  • Monitors academic progress of athletes to ensure player eligibility

  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to manage training for cross-country, indoor, and outdoor seasons; understands recovery and wellness specific to distance athletes

  • Maintains skill development programs for players

  • Coordinates maintenance and repair work for athletic equipment

  • Promotes athletic programs through community events, fundraising, public speaking, and marketing

  • Teaches the fundamentals and strategies of women’s track at the collegiate level

  • Critiques and provides professional feedback to athletes

  • Performs all other duties as assigned
