Planning Technician
Salary range: $40,617.82 - $50,772.59 depends on qualifications
Performs professional-level planning work involving intake of planning related applications and preparation of agendas, minutes, and reports for various planning related boards and commissions.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
Accepting and processing planning and land use related applications, including applications for subdivision plats, zoning changes, Future Land Use Map amendments, zoning variances, subdivision variances, and other similar requests and applications
Responding to public or other inquiries relative to the Citys Code of Ordinances, planning policies and procedures, and provides appropriate verbal and written guidance to applicants, developers, engineers, and the general public
Preparing and posting Public Notices for Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council public hearings, including verification of dates and schedules meeting City Code and Statutory requirements
Preparing and mailing noticing to property owners as required by City policy and State law for zoning requests, Comprehensive Plan amendments, variance requests, and all other board and commission action requiring public notices
Securing and transcribing the minutes of all planning related boards and commissions. Responsible for continuous record keeping of the past minutes of all meetings
Aiding Senior Planners and other planning staff in research for and preparation of major reports and ordinance revisions for submittal to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council
Acting as custodian of department records and minutes of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Heritage Preservation Board, and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board
Maintaining ongoing records regarding Conditional Use Permits approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Graduation from High School or equivalent; and
Two (2) years of experience in Urban Planning office, Public Administration, or associated field; or
Any equivalent combination of related education and experience
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid Texas drivers license within ninety (90) days of hire
Must have a valid drivers license by date-of-hire
Must be a licensed Notary Public in the state of Texas or meet the requirements for securing a license within six (6) months of employment
Must be bondable
