Job Description

Participate in research-based learning (RBL), team-based learning (TBL), and problem-based learning (PBL) activities related to organic cotton production. Assist in implementing action plans aimed at improving cotton sustainability and soil health.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily participation in research and team-based learning activities

  • Engage in field activities related to organic cotton production

  • Engage in laboratory analysis of data collected from organic cotton farm

  • Participate in field visits to organic cotton farms and gins

  • Assist supervisor as per needed

Required Education and Experience:

  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University.

  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA

  • No prior experience necessary

  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of soil sampling

  • Abilities to collect soil and plant samples

  • Basic skills to understand the method of laboratory analysis

  • Fundamental knowledge on data analysis

  • Fundamental knowledge on data collection

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Working towards BS degree in agriculture, computer science, engineering or the sciences;

  • Preference will be given to applicants with a strong willingness to work in agriculturally-related projects as indicated in their resume.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fundamental understanding and knowledge of fieldwork

  • Fundamental understanding and knowledge of lab work
