Position Title Visiting Instructor of Mathematics

Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of the Incarnate Word invites full-time, non-tenure track faculty candidates for Visiting Instructor of Mathematics beginning August 2026. Candidates should demonstrate teaching excellence in one of the following fields: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related field.

Full-time instructors at UIW are expected to teach five courses in the fall and five courses in the spring semester. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.

Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
  1. Prepare course outlines and teach undergraduate mathematics and/or statistics courses that align with departmental needs, based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
  2. Participate in and contribute to curriculum development.
  3. Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
  4. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  5. Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  6. Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  7. Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  8. Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
  9. Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings as appropriate.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellence and proficiency in undergraduate teaching;
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strong commitment to collaborative and cooperative instruction, advising, and mentoring a diverse population of underserved students including but not exclusive to first-generation college students, veterans, and racially and ethnically diverse students;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of instructional technology;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Statistics, OR Master’s Degree in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics or statistics.
Required Work Experience
Successful teaching experience in Mathematics/Statistics at the college or university level, as evidenced by peer and/or student reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level in mathematics/statistics courses.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations and evidence of teaching or service reflecting values of social justice and/or Catholic social teachings.
