The San Antonio District Laboratory is seeking a Materials Process Inspector to join our Asphalt Lab team. Our team plays a critical role in supporting the construction and maintenance of Texas highways by performing quality assurance testing on construction materials, including flexible pavement and Hot Mix Asphalt. Through this work, we help ensure materials meet TxDOT Standard Specifications, contributing to the safety, quality, and longevity of the state's transportation infrastructure.

- Material/Process Inspector I (B18): $45,521- $71,055
- Material/Process Inspector II (B19): $48,244- $76,028
- Material/Process Inspector III (B20): $51,158- $81,351

Performs complex material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Works Part at a geographically separated location.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
- Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
- Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Records test data on worksheets
- Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
- High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
- Material/Process Inspector I :None
- Material/Process Inspector II :1 year of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.
- Material/Process Inspector III :2 years of experience in laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering related work.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have HMA Plant Spec-IA certification at time of application
- Aggregate Prop Spec Agg101 certification within 6 months of hire
- HMA Roadway Spec-IB certification within 12 months of hire
- HMA Mix Design Spec-II certification within 12 months of hire
- Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
- Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures
- Laboratory testing procedures and methodologies

- Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Pushing-using upper extremities to press against object with force to move in a direction
- Pulling-using upper extremities to exert force moving objects in a sustained motion
- Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
