| Job Description | The Ranch Foreman is responsible for leading and executing the day-to-day operations of the Freeman Center, including Freeman Ranch and other properties under its oversight. This position supports a 3,500-acre teaching and research ranch that integrates livestock production, wildlife management, land stewardship, and academic programming. The Foreman ensures that daily operational needs are met, including livestock care, equipment and facility maintenance, and implementation of rangeland and habitat management practices. Working in a highly interdisciplinary environment, the Ranch Foreman provides hands-on support for teaching, research, and outreach activities across multiple university departments and external partners. The position supervises and trains student workers, coordinates daily work activities, and maintains safe and efficient operations across the Center. This role requires strong technical skills in ranch operations, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the initiative to operate independently while implementing plans established by the Ranch Manager and Center leadership. |
| Job Duties | The Ranch Foreman is responsible for executing the day-to-day operations of the Freeman Center, including maintaining infrastructure, equipment, and rangeland across Freeman Ranch and associated properties. This includes performing repairs and upkeep on facilities, roads, fences, and water systems, as well as operating and maintaining vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools. The position carries out daily livestock care, including feeding, watering, monitoring herd health, and assisting with cattle working activities such as calving, branding, and general herd management. The Foreman provides hands-on support for teaching, research, and outreach activities by preparing facilities, equipment, and livestock for use by faculty, students, and external partners. The role also executes day-to-day purchasing and assists with livestock and equipment sales within established budget guidelines. In addition, the position supervises and trains student workers, assigns daily tasks, and ensures work is completed safely and efficiently. This role also implements wildlife operations and habitat management practices, including supporting hunting operations, conducting invasive species and predator control, and carrying out rangeland improvement efforts. The Ranch Foreman works independently to complete tasks while operating under the direction of the Ranch Manager to ensure alignment with the Freeman Center’s operational goals. |
