ABOUT

The Marketing and Public Relations Writer/Editor is responsible for creating clear, compelling, audience-focused content that drives engagement, attendance and enrollment-related outcomes. This role translates institutional information into messaging that captures attention, communicates value and motivates action across multiple channels.This is a full-time position responsible to the Director, Marketing and Communications.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Primary Responsibilities

  • Gathers information and develops content about the College, its students, faculty, programs and activities for use in a wide variety of marketing and promotional materials including website, intranet, social media, print collateral and digital communications
  • Produces feature content, announcements and news releases that are structured to generate audience interest and engagement while also supporting media distribution when appropriate
  • Writes, edits and refines content to ensure clarity, consistency and alignment with institutional brand standards and communication goals
  • Prioritizes audience understanding by translating complex or academic information into accessible, engaging and action-oriented messaging
  • Crafts headlines, leads and key messages designed to capture attention and encourage audience response
  • Reviews and edits content produced by others to ensure quality, consistency and alignment with institutional messaging and brand standards
  • Develops and produces internal and external newsletters that prioritize audience relevance, clarity and engagement, including writing, editing and organizing content to improve readability and effectiveness
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with sources across the College to gather information, identify stories and support effective communication

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assists in responding to media and public inquiries in coordination with the Director, Marketing and Communications
  • Identifies and proposes new approaches and channels for communicating with internal and external audiences
  • Takes photos and occasionally videos to support content development as needed
  • Maintains media and communication contact lists
  • Attends events as assigned to gather information and support content creation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct supervision

Work Environment: Indoor office setting with some work may be required outside of normal business hours.

Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, bending, repetitive typing, and regular stair climbing. Requires prolonged verbal communication (in person and via phone) and regular use of standard office equipment.

Valid Driver’s License Required: Yes

Travel Required: Yes10% (TJC campuses and conferences)

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

WHO YOU ARE

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field

Required Experience

Two (2) years of direct experience

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position may be considered.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in marketing, communications or content development
  • Experience in a college or university setting
